According to his spokesman, former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan will not run for president on the ruling party’s ticket next year.

This comes after months of rumors that he may return to national politics.

According to reports, a group of Jonathan fans from northern Nigeria purchased nomination papers for him to run in the ruling All Progressives Congress party’s (APC) primary elections, which are set to take place at the end of the month.

Jonathan’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, said in a statement cited by Reuters on Monday that the former president did not authorize the purchase of nomination forms, which are required for candidates to participate in primary elections.
