Residents of Kogi State, particularly those in Kabba, have been left in disarray after a bomb blast was heard in the area on Sunday evening.
According to reports, the incident happened in the late hours of Sunday.
The bombing was related to the Islamic State-backed Boko Haram group, the Islamic State West Africa Province, according to security officials who spoke with Sahara Reporters earlier (ISWAP).
In a more thorough report, the Nigeria Police Force’s State Command stated that the explosion occurred in the Kabba Town in the Kabbah-Bunu Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, William Ovye-Ayaz, spoke with newsmen in Lokoja, the state capital, hours after the incident, stating that no one was injured in the blast.
He stated that the explosion occurred at 9.15 p.m. on Sunday at one Omofemi Bar in Kabba’s Okepadi Quarters.
“As it stands now, there are no casualties, but only chairs and tables, and the building is impacted by the nature of the explosion, which has yet to be determined,” Ovye-Azaz said.
“Our DC Investigations and the Bomb Detective Squad have already been dispatched to the scene by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Egbuka, to determine the exact nature of the explosion.”
“Our officers and troops deployed to the location have roped off the area until an inquiry determines the true cause of the explosion,” said the police chief.
The PPRO bemoaned the fact that criminal groups are attempting to destabilize the current state of peace in Kogi.
“We will not rest until such elements are brought to justice and recognize the importance of maintaining peace in our community,” he said
