A former senior South African official has filed an official complaint accusing President Cyril Ramaphosa of “kidnapping” and “corruption.”
Arthur Fraser, a former South African intelligence head, said that Ramaphosa detained and interrogated burglars who found over 3.8 million euros “hidden” in one of his residences before buying their silence in a case filed on Wednesday, June 2.
In a statement copied to AFP, Arthur Fraser stated, “Today, I have taken the extraordinary step of filing a complaint against His Excellency, the President of the Republic of South Africa.”
“This charge arises from the theft of more over 4 million dollars [3.8 million euros, editor’s note] stashed” in a Ramaphosa farm in the country’s northeast, according to Fraser.
The burglary, according to Fraser, occurred on February 9, 2020, and “the president concealed the crime” from police and tax authorities, “then compensated the perpetrators for their silence.”
Mr Ramaphosa is accused of “obstructing justice” and of orchestrating “the kidnapping of the suspects, their interrogation on his home, and their bribing,” according to Mr Fraser.
He claimed to have given the cops “evidence to substantiate” his accusation, including “pictures, bank accounts, identities, and videos.”
His lawyer, Eric Mabuza, told AFP that the complaint was made on Wednesday at a Johannesburg police station.
