Doyin Okupe says that the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will not abandon his campaign in favor of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, is reportedly holding a meeting with the NNPP’s Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Peter Obi to discuss a possible partnership to defeat the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) nominee, Bola Tinubu.

However, Okupe, the Director-General of the Peter Obi Campaign Organization, has indicated that the former governor of Anambra State is in the race to win.

Obi and his large supporters, he said, were focused on winning the general election in 2023.

“The support Peter Obi is receiving across the country is far too big for anyone to ask him to resign for anyone,” Okupe remarked. Nobody expected Obi to abandon the PDP, but he did.

“The true third force has arrived. Obi isn’t the only one who will be affected by the coming upheaval. Peter Obi is a man who has arrived at the right time. Both the PDP and the APC have run their course. In Nigeria’s current situation, they are no longer applicable.”

Obi’s media adviser, Valentine Obienyem, also spoke on the supposed partnership against Tinubu, saying the 2019 PDP vice-presidential candidate is satisfied with the Labour Party.

He stated that Peter Obi’s return to the PDP would destroy many Nigerians’ aspirations and leave them disillusioned.

“If he (Obi) states today that he is returning to the PDP to be a running partner, I can assure you that if he walks down the street, many Nigerians will stone him and consider him as a letdown,” Obienyem stated. Nigerians want him, and the only thing we can do to help him is encourage him to respond to their call. So he’ll run, and all things being equal, I’m confident he’ll win.

“Today, Nigerians desire change, and Peter Obi is seen as a symbol of that change, therefore the issue of structure that people discuss isn’t relevant.” When they last asked him about his party’s structure, he answered, “The structure is Nigerians across the country, and that is the best structure.”

“What is happening in Nigeria today is a nonviolent revolution,” Obi’s media assistant told PUNCH when asked how he plans to defeat Atiku and Tinubu. Nigerians desire to overthrow the current system. Nigeria is ripe for a smooth transition, and Peter Obi is fortunate to be at the helm.”

Nigerians, even northerners, he claimed, wished for excellent administration.
