Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly opened plenary on Monday with a resolve to write congratulatory letters to Northern governors running on the APC platform for their collective decision that resulted in Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s win at the party’s recent convention.
The National Assembly will also send letters of appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari, Southern governors on the APC platform, the Conference of Speakers, and the National Assembly.
Eromosele Ebhomele, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, confirmed this in a statement to advertafrica.net on Monday.
The House also decided to send Tinubu, whom members dubbed a “golden fish,” a congratulations note, thanking the presidential hopefuls who stepped down from the contest and backed the former governor of Lagos state to victory.
Members of the House then took turns eulogizing Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the House.
Recall that Speaker Obasa has been soliciting support for Tinubu’s election as APC flag bearer in numerous Nigerian states since 2020.
In his remarks, Obasa stated that the primary election result was worthy of celebration, particularly in light of the large number of individuals who backed Tinubu and played diverse roles in ensuring his victory.
According to him, the Northern governors’ actions have strengthened democracy and togetherness.
The APC governors in the north had decided to support a Southern candidate before of the convention. They made their decision public as well.
“The Northern governors’ singular move is proof and witness that Nigeria’s democracy is here to stay and that the country will continue to exist as one.” It goes beyond expressing support for Asiwaju and demonstrates that by working together, we can move our country forward.
“The emergence of Asiwaju inspires optimism that better days are ahead, and that we will live in a more egalitarian society.”
“We have complete confidence that, just as he did before, he can do it again,” the Speaker remarked, recalling Tinubu’s accomplishments as governor of Lagos state.
Stakeholders and party leaders have been tasked by him to increase their support for Tinubu ahead of the general election.
