Officials from the President’s Office (diaspora affairs) have begun discussions with a team from Facebook in order to improve revenue sharing and tax collection.
Isaac Kigozi, the head of trade and investment in the diaspora affairs branch of the Office of the President, represented Uganda at the meeting, while Julie Wenah, the assistant general counsel, Facebook Global, represented Facebook.
The discussion took place on the fringes of the two-day 2nd Annual Africon Conference, which brings together people from the worldwide Black diaspora from various fields such as music, food, innovation, activism, and education.
The event, which takes place on Africa Day, aims to showcase Africa’s and the diaspora’s diversity through entertainment, journalism, technology, and leadership.
“We had a productive discussion with Facebook Global’s associate general counsel. The meeting’s goal was to start discussions about how to improve the setup of a framework to secure revenue sharing and tax collection, according to Kigozi.
The Ugandan official also met with Ukonwa Ojo, Amazon Prime Video & Amazon Studios’ global chief marketing officer, and TJ Adeshola, Twitter’s head of global content partnerships.
The conference, which was held in Los Angeles, California, in the United States, drew famous blacks from all around the world.
President Yoweri Museveni’s senior diaspora advisor, Abbey Walusimbi, stated President Yoweri Museveni was willing to talk with the event organizers about the future of a united African diaspora.
“I greet you all on behalf of President Museveni of Uganda, and I hope that we can all enjoy responsibly and network around what we can do together, especially for our children.”
Africa is now the world’s future. We are the world’s food basket. Africa is the world’s source of all minerals, and all industries rely on it to survive.
“I’m sure you’re aware that Africa must reclaim its greatness. To do so, we must work together to identify an issue to fix. When colonialists arrived and dominated Africa, everything was destroyed, as you know. “They took our formulas, artifacts, and our documented history regarding our tremendous specialism,” Walusimbi explained.
The ambassador emphasized the importance of all Africans in the diaspora participating in and being a part of an economically, socially, and politically united Africa.
“Kindly return home with 21st-century skills and opportunities so that we can rebuild Africa, your motherland’s foundation.” We were designed to be unique, talented individuals who never give up. “Our tenacity is unrivaled, and we are God’s original people,” Walusimbi remarked.
Among those who spoke at the occasion were Kigozi, Travis Adkins (chief executive officer of the US African Development Foundation), and Temwa Gondwe (senior manager of the AFREXIMBANK’s Intra-African Trade Initiative).
Ava Hall (former BET International CEO), Omotola Jalade Ekeinde (actor), Abdul Abdullah (creator of Afrochella Festival), and Tunde Ogundipe were among the other famous guests (general manager African music strategy and culture, Sony).
