At least 20 persons, possibly between the ages of 15 and 20, have perished at a township bar in East London, a city in southern South Africa.
The residential area of Scenery Park was bordered with funeral homes on Sunday.
Outside the club, a large group of concerned parents and bystanders had gathered to look for their loved ones.
The provincial community and safety department official disqualified a stampede as the cause of death because the individuals who were discovered had no obvious open wounds. Unathi Binqose, a safety government employee who arrived at the site at morning, reported finding empty beer bottles, wigs, and even a pastel purple “Happy Birthday” sash scattered on the dirt roadway outside the two-story Enyobeni Tavern.
He stated, “Forensic (investigators) will take samples and conduct tests to see whether there was any poisoning of any kind.
Taverns, often known as township pubs in South Africa, are places where drinking is tolerated.
Many of the customers, according to Binqose, were apparently students “celebrating pens down, a party held after writing (high school) examinations.”
The incident’s circumstances are being looked examined by investigators.
