Ifeanyi Okowa, the PDP vice presidential candidate, reportedly alerted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that his WAEC certificate was missing.
According to reports, Okowa included information regarding the missing certificate in his papers for eligibility in the run for the elections in 2023.
In his affidavit, he claimed that in 1974, he registered for and took the West African School Certificate (WASC) exams administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
He noted in the affidavit that the original certificate had been granted but could no longer be located.
On October 3, 2006, the High Court of Justice, Delta State, Asaba Judicial Division, granted the affidavit of loss of original certificate.
The Delta State Governor reportedly stated in the affidavit, “That I personally enrolled and sat for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) West African School Certificate (WASC) examinations in the year 1974 at Edo College, Benin City, in what is now Edo state.”
“That I passed the mentioned exams and as a result was given the mentioned certificate. That the original of the aforementioned certificate that was given to me is currently missing, lost, and untraceable.
In line with the Bendel State’s Oaths Law as it applies to Delta state, he said, “That I make this oath for the records and do so knowing and believing the same to be true.”
