While returning from Abuja after witnessing the announcement of pastor Idahosa as Senator Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso’s running partner for president, four members of the New Nigeria Political Party (NNPP) in Niger State were killed in a car accident on the Minna-Suleja highway.
The incident happened on July 18 between Lambata and Lapai in Niger state when the NNPP Sharon-branded vehicle they were riding in collided with a stationary truck.
Alhaji Mohammed Kaffinta Katcha, the zonal chairman of the party in Zone A, Alhaji Baba Nda-Yako Usman, Mr. Usman Mai-Nasara, the leader of the party’s youth organization in the zone, and Zakari, the driver of the car in which they were riding, are among those who perished.
Alhaji Usman Usman, the chairman of the party’s Gbako Local Government, Alhaji Nasiru Mohammed, and Alhaji Sani Musa, the chairman of the party’s Edati LGA, all suffered significant injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The deceased were buried in their communities in accordance with Muslim customs.
The occurrence was confirmed by the leader of the party in the state, Alhaji Danladi Abdulhameed, who called it “sad and pathetic” but added that “as Muslims, we should take the incident as an act of God.”
According to Abdulhameed, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s national leader and presidential candidate, has also expressed sympathy to the relatives of the deceased.
“Our presidential candidate has committed to conduct a high-powered trip to Niger state to express condolences with the administration, residents, and the entire NNPP family,” he continued.
