The Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region, had two prepaid meters placed on Saturday, July 23, 2022, but they vanished from his home on Tuesday night without a trace.

The installation of the meters in the lawmaker’s home caused controversy among his voters, and several of his supporters voiced their disapproval of the change.

This follows the dispute between the ECG and its Krobo clients over the placement of the meters in the region.

The MP called out employees of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on Sunday, July 24, 2022, for disrespecting his office by changing the meters in his home without his permission.

employees of the business As part of the ongoing prepaid metering system in the Krobo neighborhood, the meter at the lawmaker’s home was fixed on Saturday afternoon.

He claimed that while he wouldn’t have objected to the experiment, having been informed in advance would have increased confidence on all sides.

Therefore, many people are a little surprised by the meter’s removal.

When asked about the development and his response, the MP said that after learning of it, he immediately told his family to contact the ECG and the police.

The legislator declared, “I dispatched my brother to the ECG office to go and report and then go to the police station to go and report.”

The NDC MP claimed that he believes that certain members of the ruling NPP—who he referred to as political saboteurs—are responsible for the thefts.

I wouldn’t be shocked if some of my saboteurs and those provoking people against me over the installation were responsible, he continued.

The legislator fiercely disagreed when asked if this may be the work of some of his followers who were furious over the installation of the meters in his home:

“No, I told them I’m a law-abiding citizen and I don’t believe in that, once it’s installed, I’ve loaded it with credit,” the person replied.

After removing the meters, the “thieves” made an illegal connection to Mr. Okletey Terlabi’s home by connecting the power without a meter, according to the ECG.

The business now has to accuse him of having illicit links.

According to a “notice of illegal power connection” sent to the politician and published by GhanaWeb, the MP violated LI 1651 (1999) and LI 1702 by “tampering or interfering with our meter” and “unauthorized service connection” (2002).

I’ve been charged with an unlawful connection, the MP stated, adding that he is a law-abiding person and ready to help the service provider solve the riddle of what happened to his meters.

The Member of Parliament’s younger brother, Mr. Albert Terlabi, who lives in the home with his family, claimed that he became aware of the development on Wednesday morning.
