Authorities in Italy deny that a Nigerian man’s murder was motivated by race.

After a Nigerian immigrant was brutally murdered in front of the public in Civitanova Marche, Italy, there were protests there. No one came to the victim’s aid.

Charity Oriakhi, the widow of Alika Ogorchukwa, has observed a widely shared video of the assault:

She says, “I can’t watch it.”

“I watched the video right as the boy was choking quite hard. My hubby was having trouble.

“The boy was killing him by strangulation. No, I have no idea what my spouse did to the boy. I’m not sure.

Police detained a suspect but excluded race from the attack on Alika, a local street seller with a history of mental illness, right away.

Charity Oriakhi says “I was there, I saw those people wearing white clothes. Normally, if I saw them in the news, in television, they are carrying dead people.

“I saw this report, they are carrying dead people. ‘Where is my husband?’ I said. I saw him dead, already dead.”

Italians of color are currently calling for the government to acknowledge the part race played in Ogorchukwu’s fate.

Locals, meanwhile, have received criticism from around the world for their inaction.

The fact that no one attempted to halt the attack, according to Milanese Fabiana Anselmi, is what she finds most alarming.

“Any comment is superfluous because, beyond the extreme action of a person that maybe wasn’t in full possession of his mental abilities, which is something the prosecutors will investigate, the most shocking aspect is the total absence of an intervention by the people watching and doing nothing,” she says.

Ogochukwu’s death has been denounced by the Nigerian government, which has urged Italian authorities to “bring the perpetrator of the terrible act to court without delay.”
