Tuesday, August 9, 2022 saw President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo visiting Global Almas Processing Limited, a yam and cassava processing plant in Bimbilla, in the Northern Region.
When giving the President a tour of the facility, Michael Okyere Baafi, the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, stated that the business had made use of the nearby raw materials in Nanumba and the area around it to process yam and cassava flour for both local and international markets.

The Deputy Minister claims that Global Almas has a land bank of more than 2,000 acres in Bimbilla, and that more property would be bought as operations expand in response to an anticipated rise in product demand.

Additionally, he mentioned that 10,000 yams must be purchased each day for the factory to create 1,000 cartons of Yam Fufu Flour every day under the brand name Almas Yam Fufu Flour.

On the cassava processing line, about 200 bags of cassava flour are produced each day. The company works with about 20 farming organizations that have agreed to supply the factory.

The New Juaben South MP added that the factory’s overall cost is estimated to be GH9.2 million, with the promoter contributing 60% of that amount, or roughly GH5.2 million.

Additionally, a credit facility worth GH1 million (10.8% of the total project cost) was issued by the Ghana Exim Bank and disbursed in February 2021.

More than 74 direct employment have already been established by Global Almas, including management, supervision, food science, laboratory technician, maintenance technician, and women working as yam/cassava sorters, cleaners, baggers, and attendants at sewing machines.

Over 400 more indirect employment have also been added for people working as out-growers, transporters, harvesting team members, packaging & handling specialists, sales outlets, etc.

The business has already agreed to supply 1,000 tons of cassava chips per month to Sinostone Ethanol Manufacturing Company in Juapong.

A second contract was reached with the Wa-based Bofas Company Limited for the monthly delivery of a 40-foot container of yam fufu flour for export to the US market.
