Over 148,000 employees with multiple identities have been found, according to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, through a process to compare biometric information from workers in the national identity system at the National Identification Authority (NIA) and the same information at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).
“It might simply imply that they haven’t just registered for the Ghana Card, possibly. The optimistic presumption is that.
The Vice President claims that after the procedure is finished, a report will be written, and anyone found to be abusing the system would be brought before the law.
This was said by Dr. Bawumia on Tuesday, August 16, during a speech at the Internal Audit Agency Conference in Accra for this year.

He claimed that the procedure is a component of initiatives to use digitization to purge the system of corruption brought on by the alleged ghost names.
He explained, “The Controller and Accountant General just finished an exercise with the National Identification Authority where we are matching employees on the Controller and Accountant database with the Ghana Card ID and they just finished the first phase of the work last week and we have found that there are 533 people on Controller and Accountant General payroll who have multiple identities.
The employees have various accounts with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, each with a unique employee number, in all instances of multiple identities. Three employee numbers are used by some.

The data also reveals that 148,060 of the 601,000+ employees in the database had no matches for them in the Ghana Card national identification registration.
The Vice President then speculated that these employees might not have yet applied for their Ghana Cards.
It’s also possible that some people who don’t have compatible biometrics have several employee accounts, but we’d have to check.
Therefore, he gave notice that these non-compliant employees will be fired.
“We will investigate this thoroughly, and I am confident that we will heavily rely on the Internal Audit Agency as we are now doing to investigate the corruption that is there with phantom workers on our payroll, and a report will, of course, be made to the prosecution authorities.”
