Following the military coup last year, Sudanese protestors have taken to the streets of Khartoum to call for the restoration of civilian authority. Since army head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan orchestrated a military coup in October, Sudan has been shaken by nearly weekly protests and a brutal response that has so far claimed at least 116 lives. The coup has thrown off the transition to civilian administration that was put in place when three-decade strongman Omar al-Bashir was overthrown in 2019.
