Sudanese protest for a civilian government once more

Following the military coup last year, Sudanese protestors have taken to the streets of Khartoum to call for the restoration of civilian authority. Since army head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan orchestrated a military coup in October, Sudan has been shaken by nearly weekly protests and a brutal response that has so far claimed at least 116 lives. The coup has thrown off the transition to civilian administration that was put in place when three-decade strongman Omar al-Bashir was overthrown in 2019.
