The Tik-Tokker with the most followers worldwide, Khaby Lame, acquired Italian citizenship on Wednesday. The 22-year-old was raised in a run-down section of the town of Chivasso, outside of Turin, after being born in Senegal and moving to Italy as a young child.
A solemn ceremony for a jovial character.
Khaby Lame, a Tik-tok Mega star and Senegalese native, acquired Italian citizenship on Wednesday.
The person who immigrated to Italy as a young child made a solemn oath to uphold the Italian Republic, the Constitution, and all applicable laws.
“I am very proud”, Lame said. His Senegalese parents settled in Italy when he was still a child, so after more than 15 years spent in the Alpine nation, he “already felt Italian”. ‘It is not that before signing, I did not feel Italian, so very little has changed”, he confessed.
Lame was granted a new citizenship at the Chivasso city hall. He was raised outside of Turin in a destitute neighborhood of the city. When Covid hit, he lost his job and resorted to social media, where he eventually rose to fame.
“It’s very different because I have always lived in the slums, but there, in our having nothing, we were happy, we were glad, we played in the courtyard, even though we had nothing .Anyways, yes, it’s another reality, it’s a whole new world to which I still need to get used to, but I am gradually adapting”
Lame had to wait until he was an adult before becoming a citizen, as was the case for many Italian children of immigrants.
The public figure’s life has a new chapter. Lame no, who has 148.5 million Tik Tok subscribers, collaborates with brands to secure endorsement and sponsorship deals.
