Liz Truss, the nation’s new prime minister, has chosen British-Nigerian lawmaker Kemi Badenoch to serve as the country’s new trade secretary.
Until she joined scores of her colleagues in resigning from Boris Johnson’s administration in July over his handling of a number of scandals, Badenoch, who ran in the leadership race against Truss, was a minister at the U.K.’s leveling-up department.
After receiving Michael Gove’s crucial support, she finished fourth in the leadership contest, and for a brief moment, it looked as though she may advance to the Tory members’ run-off.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who was appointed secretary of state for transportation, is replaced by Badenoch.
