According to an official, Nigeria’s customs service seized 7,000 donkey penises on their way to Hong Kong at an airport in the country’s commercial hub, Lagos.
Sambo Dangaladima, the customs controller at Murtala Muhammed airport, said the animal parts were included in 16 sacks that were discovered in the animal export area.
He claimed that the authorities were suspicious because of the way the sacks smelled.
The estimated value of the shipment is 200 million Naira ($478,000; £416,000).
According to reports, a suspect connected to the package fled.
In China, where they are used to create traditional medicines, donkey parts are highly sought after.
Nigerian law forbids export of donkey parts.
