The right of Guinea to host the 2025 AFCON has been taken away by the Confederation of African Football.
Patrice Motsepe, president of the CAF, traveled to Conakry on Friday to meet with Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, the interim president, although he claimed the decision had been made in July.
Because Guinea won’t be prepared to host the competition in 2025, Motsepe stated that they would contact the CAF for new bids.
The previous organizing committee was disbanded in March by Colonel Doumbouya, when one of its members publicly questioned the project’s viability.
He issued a proclamation stating that the 2025 CAN’s organization was “of national importance and priority.”
It has happened before that a nation was prevented from holding the AFCON.
Due to delays brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Cameroon was denied the chance to host the 2019 tournament since they weren’t deemed prepared, but they were given the 2021 event instead, which was held earlier this year.
