Ghanaian cocoa farmers have praised the Producer Price Review Committee’s announcement of a 21% rise in the producer price (PPRC).

The producer price of cocoa, which accounts for 89.99% of the net FOB value, has increased by 21%, from GH660 per 64kg bag (GH10,560 per tonne) to GH800 (GH12,800.00 per tonne), according to the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC).

On October 7, 2022, the new price becomes effective.

“The 21% rise in the producer price of cocoa is a testament to Government’s resolve to ensure farmers earn a decent income and make cocoa farming lucrative. Government will continue to implement initiatives to build a robust, resilient, and sustainable cocoa industry where cocoa farmers and their communities will thrive”, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akoto Afriyie said at a press conference in Accra yesterday.

The 2018 National Best Farmer, Charles Gyamfi, praised the government for raising the producer price of cocoa despite economic difficulties in an interview with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim on Atinka FM’s AM Drive.

He claims that this demonstrates how the government cares about the welfare of cocoa growers.

“We appreciate the increased price, and I must emphasize that the cocoa farmers are appreciative of COCOBOD and the government for it. We even anticipated GHS 750, therefore we are appreciative with the GHS 800,” Charles Gyamfi remarked.

Charles Gyamfi, the 2018 National Best Farmer, also urged cocoa farmers to stop smuggling their products into Côte d’Ivoire in light of the fact that COCOBOD provides them with free cocoa seedlings and fertilizer.
