Professor Kofi Agyekum, head of linguistics at the University of Ghana, has sided with those who support the “shoot to kill” directive in an effort to combat the galamsey menace.
It has been suggested by a number of people that the government declare a state of emergency and give the military special orders to shoot anyone found at the illicit mining (galamsey) sites.
They have a strong conviction that this strategy will dissuade illegal miners, protect the environment, save lives, and prevent pollution of the nation’s water supplies, which also puts people’s health at danger.
Professor Agyekum urged President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be audacious and approve the “shoot to kill” command while speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
“. . Kwami, I now agree with you that we enforce that when we meet you there we must shoot you . . . where we have reached, we have to make up our mind that if you have decided to destroy the nation, the nation must also get rid of you,” he said.
