According to Black Cannabis Magazine, on October 7th in South Beach, Miami, Nigerian Afrobeats superstar and Grammy Award winner Burna Boy debuted his cannabis brand BrkFst in collaboration with Jokes Up/Ice Kream.

Burna Boy is introducing his brand, BrkFst, to the cannabis community shortly after wrapping off his Love, Damini stadium tour. The majority of smokers will relate because they consume marijuana in the morning with breakfast, which is your first meal of the day. As a result, the hashtag became #Brkfstisforsmokers.

The all-day event, which coincided with Miami Carnival, began with a Pop Up from 12 to 3 followed by brunch at Miami Diner from 3:30 to 7 and included the Burna Boy headline team at the Tipsy Musical Festival at Bayfront Park, which had an all-white theme and ended at 11 PM.

He was the first African artist to head a Caribbean festival feature performances by Machel Montana, Skinny Fabulous, Teejay, Voice, Hypasounds, and more! His fans showed up to get first dibs on BrkFst merchandise and be crooned by the Afrofusion superstar.

The brand BrkFst may have been inspired by the lyrics of his hit song “Last Last,” where he sings “Na everybody go chop breakfast,” which is a slang in Nigeria that simply means everyone will definitely experience pain or heartbreak.

He also sings… “I need Igbo and shayo (Shayo).” In those lines, Burna Boy is coping with the end of a relationship and is healing his emotional wounds with weed (Igbo) and alcohol (shayo).

It is the first single off his most recent album, “Love, Damini,” which was released on July 8th, 2022, through Atlantic Records, and has received 94 million views on YouTube. Chopstix, who produced the afrobeats song, used a sample from Toni Braxton’s timeless 2000 song “He Wasn’t Man Enough.”

With Yung Lb, the creator of Runtz & Jokes Up, Scotty of Jokes Up/Ice Kream Dispensary, and other friends, Burna Boy ended his night clubbing.

The rapper updated the hosts on cannabis in Nigeria in a 2021 interview with Home Grown radio, claiming that “everyone smokes weed” there and that no one wants to be caught doing it because it is illegal to do so. He also claimed that Los Angeles had the best smoke in the world.

Burna Boy added that the ban of cannabis in Nigeria is because people shy away from discussing it. “It’s not a zero-tolerance. It’s like everybody does it, but nobody wants to be the one that is seen with it. It’s just kind of hypocritical out there. Everybody smokes weed,” he said.

“It’s like some dumb shit, bro. You know those old adverts when they talk about it frying your brains. They try to make it seem like if you smoke it, you will go mad. “Right now, everybody is relaxed, everybody does it, and everybody knows that. It’s just a topic no one wants to talk about. No one wants to talk about it; everybody is cool. Everybody’s free. Everybody’s smoking. Nobody wants to make it a thing.”

The ‘Last Last’ singer also alleged that officials enforcing the ban on cannabis in the country are usually discriminatory in their approach.
