Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, has made a suggestion that he would resign after the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The 47-year-old claimed that despite moving to Ghana being a requirement for national team coaches, he does not anticipate doing so anytime soon.
The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder stated that he would prefer to remain in Germany for the foreseeable future.
“I think, as a national coach, you should also live in the country you work for in the long term. But I see myself personally in Germany in the next few years,” Addo told Ruhr14, as quoted by Goal.
Addo was hired as the Black Stars’ interim coach in February, but he also works as Dortmund’s scout and assistant trainer right now.
His popularity increased after he led Ghana to defeat Nigeria and secure their spot in the World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) decided to extend his contract as head coach till after the World Cup.
Prosper Harrison Addo, the general secretary of the GFA, indicated in May that juggling his responsibilities at Ghana and Dortmund was acceptable to the Association.
“The GFA has been talking to the coaches of clubs and very soon we will finalise contracts with them,” he told the Graphic Sports.
“We are working to get all the technical teams together, as advised by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and we are at a stage where all of them are okay.
“We have to agree to contracts and get other stakeholders such as the government which is responsible for paying national team coaches to agree to the terms and then we sign the contracts.”
Otto’s most recent comments, however, imply that he might leave the team after the World Cup, where the Black Stars are matched up in Group H with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.
