Last week, when the American Music Awards revealed a new category for Afrobeats at the next award show, the urge to include Afrobeats in global selling points hit a new high.
The discussion was brief since Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, had only recently stated that the Ghana-based Global Citizens Festival was in consultation with the appropriate parties on the Grammys’ intention to create an Afrobeats category.
This year’s nominations include a remarkable group of Afropop musicians from the “Favourite Afrobeats Artists” category, which has unavoidably generated a lot of discussion over the previous few days. These musicians include Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems, CKay, and Fireboy DML.
Favorite K-Pop Artist, the first-ever AMA category devoted to the K-Pop genre, Favorite Afrobeats Artist, Favorite Rock Song, and Favorite Rock Album complete out the Rock categories, bringing the total to three in the genre, as part of the American Music Awards’ 50th anniversary celebration.
The 2022 American Music Awards (AMAs), the most fan-voted awards ceremony in the world, will stream live on ABC on Sunday, November 20, 2022, from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
The AMAs honor the year’s greatest musical accomplishments as chosen by and for the fans.
