The demonstrations are thought to have been planned by local administrations to show their support for the federal government’s most recent offensive in the conflict raging in the Tigray region.
Thousands of people from all around the nation attended the events of local government leaders and their supporters.
Selamawit Berihun, a rally participant in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, said:
“What I want to convey for the west is that we want peace and love. We don’t want anyone to die, all people are our people. We do not need anyone’s interference, we can manage our country with our own sovereignty.”
Others were merely anti-Western, and many carried posters calling on the US to stop funding the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF).
This occurred when there were hopes for negotiations between the Ethiopian government and the TPLF to put an end to the regional war.
