Kuami Eugene, a highlife music icon, has begun a tour in New Zealand.
A New Zealand cultural troupe danced for him as they greeted him at the airport and placed their hands on him in what appeared to be a prayer.
The group’s leader also gave the “Take Away” singer the Hongi, a head-to-head welcome in which the foreheads and noses touch.
Along with DJ Vyrusky, Kuami participated in the tongue-out portion of the Haka dance performed in his honor at the Auckland airport.
The Haka is a ceremonial battle dance that is done to greet distinguished visitors, honor outstanding accomplishments, or signify a significant occasion.
The New Zealand cultural group had both men and women who were dressed in traditional garb that was primarily orange, black, and earth tones.
Kuami will also perform in Australia and the South Pacific in addition to New Zealand.
The singer and record producer stated on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, that he has quit Lynx Entertainment as a record company. He is currently with Empire Africa, his “new family,” which also includes artists like KiDi, Fireboy, Black Sherif, and Asake.
Beyond that, decorated record producer MOG Beatz has talked up unreleased music from the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year in a tweet which when translated into English reads: “Water can’t quench the fire Kuami Eugene is bringing [explosion and eagle head emojis].”
