Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential nominee, advised Nigerians not to support any presidential contender whose health status is “shrouded in secrecy” and said such a candidate should not be taken seriously.
TheCable interviewed Paul Ibe, Abubakar’s media advisor, on Monday in response to Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, who recently made a remark regarding his principal.
At a discussion with followers of the Tijjaniyyah sect on Sunday at the Kano government house, Tinubu had stated that he would not serve as president of Nigeria on a part-time basis, splitting his time between Dubai and Nigeria.
His remark appeared to be addressed at Abubakar, who spent the majority of his time in Dubai after President Muhammadu Buhari was declared the winner of the 2019 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ibe stated it was unwise to take Tinubu’s remark seriously.
“The president of Nigeria, the most populous country in the black continent is not for comedians,” he said.
“The process of selecting a president is not a jamboree so the earlier the APC puts its house together and starts by having a council in place. They shouldn’t be taken seriously because of their inability to organise.
“Nobody should take the candidate of that party (APC) seriously. No one should take a candidate and a party whose health situation, early school, and early years are all shrouded in secrecy. No one should take such a candidate seriously.”
Critics have expressed concern that Tinubu might have Parkinson’s disease, a central nervous system ailment that impairs movement and frequently results in tremors.
