Ramon Abbas, better known by his Instagram handle Hushpuppi, was found guilty of fraud and money laundering and was given an 11-year jail sentence by the United States Central District Court in California.
Remember that Hushpuppi was detained in Dubai in June 2020 as a result of a complex fraud scheme that defrauded individuals in the United States, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and other countries of their money.
He was then deported to the US, where he was accused of bank fraud, identity theft, various counts of hacking, impersonation, scamming, and money laundering.
To the counts of conspiring to participate in money laundering, he however entered a guilty plea.
Hushpuppi will now serve only nine years in prison after receiving his verdict on Friday (November 4), having previously served two years behind bars in the US.
Hushpuppi had sent a letter of plea to Judge Otis Wright outlining his wealth source, criminal exploits, and apologies.
He expressed regret to his family and thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for doing a good job of bringing him to justice.
