All members of the Church of Pentecost (COP) are required to observe a three-day fast and prayer period beginning on November 10, 2022.

The decision was made by the Church’s Executive Council in response to the nation’s economic woes.

“It is apparent that the country for some time now has been going through some economic challenges which threaten the peace and security of the nation.

“The church in times like this has a divine responsibility to intercede for the nation,” he said.

The Chairman of COP, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, addressed the church on Sunday and urged the attendees to follow the instruction.

Although he acknowledged that the announcement was made at a last-minute, he asked those there to do so nevertheless to ask God to guide Ghana’s leaders and put the country’s economy on a stronger basis.

He highlighted a biblical reference to buttress his point. ‘So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and He answered our prayer’ (Ezra 8:23).

On the back of this, he indicated that “we should also pray for wisdom for our leaders to find immediate solutions to these challenges.”

The period of fasting and prayer is anticipated to stretch from November 10 to November 13.

The Church of Pentecost has attempted to influence public policy in some capacity before.

The Church of Pentecost issued the government with its strongest warning yet in October of last year on laws that discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people and the activities that surround them (LGBTQ+).

A political party that opposes the passing of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill will face the wrath of the National Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye.

“We’re going to cause people to come onto the street, and we’re going to warn any government that if you vote against this bill, we will vote you out, that is it. There’s no room for neutrality,” he told journalists.

But this time, the church has taken the spiritual route.

Speaking at the Pentecost International Worship Center, Apostle Nyamekye urged the members to “keep trusting God with the belief that he will respond to your prayers and bring relief.”
