Charles Adu Boahen’s appointment as Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance has been cancelled by President Nana Akufo-Addo with immediate effect.
The President spoke with Mr. Adu Boahen after becoming aware of the accusations made against the Minister in the exposé “Galamsey Economy,” at which point he decided to terminate his appointment and refer the case to the Special Prosecutor for additional investigations, according to a statement released by the presidency on Monday.

He claimed that the President wished Mr. Adu Boahen the best of luck in his future endeavours and thanked him for his strong service to his government since his appointment in 2017.
Mr. Adu Boahen is alleged to have told the undercover investigators in the aforementioned documentary by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia only requires a nominal payment of $200,000 to make an appearance before meetings with fictitious businesses.
According to the Minister, the Vice President would seek certain positions from an investor in order to support and influence his siblings’ efforts to start a firm in Ghana.
“You mean, like appearance fees and stuff? I mean he, himself (the Vice President), if you give him some (USD) 200,000 or something as a token, as thank you, appreciation, that’s fine.
“He’s not really, he’s not really (like) that. All he needs is to worry about his campaign money in 2020,” Charles Adu Boahen is alleged to have said.
