A lot of black polythene bags were being passed around in the stands housing the Ghanaian fans who were at the Education City Stadium to see Ghana’s thrilling 3-2 triumph over South Korea around the 80th minute mark.

Pick up every piece of trash nearby and put it in the bag, was the brief message on the bags. I felt it exciting and admirable that my compatriots were going down the same road after hearing about the Japanese fans who clean up after every matchday.

The fans in my row, including Prosper Harrison Addo, the general secretary of the Ghana Football Association, looked around them right away and picked up anything on the ground to put in the black polythene bag.

A few minutes later, a head of the Ghanaian community in Qatar made an appearance carrying additional bags and pleaded with the overexcited fans to assist in cleaning the stadium.

It was never going to be easy to get the attention of all the fans after Ghana’s historic and dramatic 3-2 victory as brass band music blared inside the stadium, but as is customary of Ghanaian hospitality, a sizable number lingered and helped clean the stadium.

The crew, which was primarily composed of Ghanaians living in Qatar, took a tour of the entire facility with an emphasis on the Ghanaian side of the stadium and collected whatever they felt to be important.

Every Ghanaian had a terrific day, which was perfectly finished off by the gentlemanly act of the Ghanaian.

The Black Stars’ clever defensive display against South Korea allowed for the positive breeze to blow across Ghana and every Ghanaian community around the world.

After the Koreans had rallied from two goals behind to tie 2-2, Mohammed Kudus scored from close range to give Ghana the win.

With three points and a goal differential of 0, the victory has moved Ghana up to second place in Group H.

On Friday, December 2, 2022, the Black Stars will play again against Uruguay in a match that many have dubbed “revenge” after Uruguay eliminated Ghana in the same competition 12 years prior.
