According to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, the oil and gas industry can no longer provide for Nigeria’s expanding population.
Obasanjo gave a speech over the weekend at his penthouse apartment at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, to the leadership of the leading sociocultural organisation in Benue State’s Tiv territory, Mzough U Tiv (MUT).
Only agriculture and agribusiness, according to him, could deal with the nation’s expanding population. In order to diversify Nigeria’s economy away from its reliance on oil, he urged citizens to concentrate on agriculture and agribusiness.
“If Nigeria is ready to get it right, the 2023 election should be a turning point. We should not go for emotion that will destroy us” Obasanjo said.
