With effect from Monday, December 19, road transport fees have been decreased by 15.3%.
According to a statement from the Road Transport Operators, the action is in line with the recent decline in oil prices.
The announcement states that the reduction % was decided upon after discussions with important stakeholders.
We have decided to lower the current transport fares by 15.3%, the statement continued, “after the negotiations and in consideration with the hardship of drivers, commuters, and the general public.”
It was important to include stakeholders in order to contemplate a review of the fares in accordance with the Administrative Instrument due to the recent drops in the price of petroleum products.
Parts of the statement from the transport operators stated, “Therefore, a series of negotiating meetings were undertaken with the stakeholders to agree on an acceptable level of fare decrease consistent with the current fuel prices.”
In order to enable the seamless implementation of the reduction, drivers and commuters have been advised.
The cost of petroleum products has been declining recently, and it is even anticipated that it will continue to do so.
