Samson Siasia, a former head coach of Nigeria, asserted that the national team would have been humiliated at the recently finished 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
After losing to West African rivals Ghana in the playoffs in March of this year, the Super Eagles were unable to advance to the competition.
After winning one and losing two games, the Black Stars were eliminated in the group round.
Cameroon and Tunisia both lost in the group stage but won their individual matches against Brazil and France.
Senegal, the AFCON winner, and Morocco, the first African nation to reach the World Cup semifinals, were the only African teams to advance to the round of 16.
And when the World Cup was over, Siasia shot down claims that the Eagles would have performed well.
“We would have been embarrassed out of the World Cup with shocking score lines,” Siasia was qouted on Football Live.
“The Super Eagles have no business going to the world cup and losing out to the Ghana team we played against is enough proof.”
Siasia was hired as the Eagles’ head coach in 2010, but was let go in 2011 after the team did not advance to the 2012 AFCON.
In 2016, Siasia took over temporarily as the Eagles coach after his former teammate Sunday Oliseh resigned, although he was once again unsuccessful in selecting the team for the 2017 AFCON.
The 55-year-old was a part of the team that competed in the World Cup the same year and helped Nigeria win the AFCON in Tunisia in 1994.
