Modeste M’Bami, a Cameroonian midfielder who played for PSG and Marseille before retiring, passed away on Saturday in Le Havre at the age of 40, according to sports agent Franck Belhassen.
Belhassen told AFP that he had spoken to the former footballer again on Saturday afternoon and that his girlfriend had confirmed the news.

Le Havre also expressed their “immense sadness” at the former Olympian’s “sudden demise,” as did OM.

The former athlete passed away from a heart attack, according to the sports publication L’Equipe.
M’Bami, a Yaoundé native, started his professional career with Sedan from 2000 to 2003 before going on to much more esteemed organizations like PSG (2003–2006) and OM (2006-2009). He subsequently set out on a journey that brought him to Colombia, Spain, China, and Saudi Arabia.
Le Havre, where he lived from 2014 to 2016, was where he completed his career. The team there also paid tribute to its former star on social media.
Two French Cups that M’Bami won with PSG are in his trophy case (2004, 2006).
He won the gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics, was chosen for the national team 38 times, and finished in the top three in the Confederations Cup in 2003 and the Canadian Championship in 2008 with the Indomitable Lions.
