Mr. Eazi, the afrobeat music icon also known as Oluwatosin Ajibade in the entertainment industry, has invested in the basketball team Cape Town Tigers.
The 31-year-old musician announced the news on Twitter and insisted he wanted to emulate his idol, Jay-Z.
Jay-investments Z’s are well known, and after purchasing a stake in the Brooklyn Nets, he became a co-owner of the NBA franchise.
The Grammy-winning rapper later sold his team shares, which he had acquired for $1 million in 2004.
Mr. Eazi expressed his happiness at joining the Cape Town Tigers’ ownership in a tweet and expressed excitement for attending the team’s upcoming match.
Three American business partners founded the Cape Town Tigers, a squad that twice won the South African national championship in 2021 and 2022.
“I read that Jay-Z got shares in a NYC basketball team! So I had to do my own to ff my mentor!” Mr Eazi wrote.
“Happy to announce I am now a shareholder of @CapeTownTigers the best basketball team in Africa from now going forward! See you at the next game! Honoured to be part of the family.”
The Nigerian performer is a shareholder in betPawa, the primary sponsor of the Ghana Premier League at the moment.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and betPawa agreed on a three-year deal worth $6 million that would be paid out over time last year.
This means that betPawa will donate $2 million to the Ghanaian top division each year that it sponsors the competition.
