Businesses on Twitter may have to pay $1,000 per month to keep their gold-verified checkmarks.
Companies and organizations that don’t pay the price will eventually lose their badges, but the exact date is unclear, according to a report from The Information. The source was given access to internal correspondence that claimed maintaining a gold badge would cost $1,000 per month and that maintaining each “associated account” would cost $50 per month.
This assertion is supported by a stolen email sent by a Twitter employee to an unidentified company, in which the latter was given “early access” to “Verification for Organizations.” The employee, Evan Jones, cited the same $1,000 cost of subscription and provided the business with a discount in an email dated February 2 and posted by social media analyst Matt Navarra.
Elon Musk, Twitter’s new CEO and owner, has made a number of adjustments in an effort to increase sales and make the business profitable. This includes a round of layoffs that caused the staff, which had been roughly 7,500 before the acquisition, to be cut in half.
Twitter is getting ready to charge companies $1k per month for a gold verification badge and an extra $50 for related firms.
It happens only a few months after Musk controversially decided to charge regular Twitter users $8 per month for the service’s iconic blue checkmarks.
Around the same time that the $8 subscription was introduced, businesses and organizations received the new gold checkmarks and square profile images in place of the previous round ones.
