Based on their cooperation on the Afrobeats singer’s album “Twice as Tall,” American rapper and record producer Diddy has been given credit for Burna Boy’s first-ever Grammy award win in 2020.
Music aficionados claim that Burna Boy used Diddy’s connections to win a Grammy.
Following Burna Boy’s defeat at the 65th Grammy Awards, a trending Instagram post supposedly written by Diddy poked fun at the Nigerian musician and said that, despite receiving two nominations, his separation from his camp gave him a chance to win an honour.
“I helped you win your first and only grammy award which I did out of kindness, and somehow you thought you could win another without my help ?? Oh okay,” the Instagram post read, but according to Diddy, the image in circulation is fake and not from him.
“This is fake,” he responded to a tweet amidst the allegations levelled against him.
Burna Boy received a Grammy nomination for “Best Global Music Album” in 2022 for his album “Love, Damini,” however Masa Takumi’s “Sakura” won the award.
The South African artists Zakes Bantwini, Nomcebo Zikode, and Wouter Kellerman won the Best Global Music Performance award, which the Afrobeats star also lost.
On February 5, 2023, the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles hosted the 65th Grammy Awards ceremony.
