Voting supplies and vote boxes have been taken from Oredo Ward 4 unit 42 on Butcher Street in Edo state by suspected political thugs.

Videos posted on social media purport to show the thugs chasing away election officials who had taken refuge in a home on Lagos Street.

Also, according to media accounts, when INEC personnel were getting ready to work, the attackers arrived with a gun to take the voting materials.

In response to the rumour that INEC officials had visited his polling place, the governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, told reporters: “We need to reconfirm that narrative. Snatching a ballot box that doesn’t contain any ballot papers doesn’t make any sense. We’ll investigate and confirm that. But I have confidence since we took the necessary steps to guarantee that there will be at least five security people at each voting location”.
