Michael Afrane, a politician and actor from Kumawood, is perplexed by claims that Kumawood’s decline was brought on by an unreliable energy source, or “Dumsor,” as it is known locally.
He said that the restoration of the Kejetia Market and Dumsor, which took place under the former John Dramani Mahama administration, was to blame for the sector’s downfall.
Although the ultra-modern Kejetia market has been totally reconstructed and power has been stabilized since 2017, Mr. Michael Afrane notes that these factors alone are insufficient to resurrect Kumawood. He questions what the actual problem was.
He pointed out that if Dumsor and the renovation of Kejetia market were to blame for the collapse of the Kumawood film industry, the industry would have rebounded after the installation of electricity and the building of Kejetia market.
It was said that the John Dramani Mahama administration did not address and fix the significant problems that were bringing the industry to its knees as a result of politics.
“Actors who ran against former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC have regretted,” Michael Afrane continued, “because Nana Addo has let them down with poor economic management.”
After making several pledges, “I can openly claim President Akufo- Addo’s government has failed to promote the movie business, forcing certain stars to campaign against former President John Dramani Mahama.”
