Abdusalam Roqeeb, a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has passed away after being involved in a car accident at the Giri crossroads in Abuja.
Abdulsalam, a Corps Assistant II from the Lagos state command, was killed in a car accident at a sharp bend in Giri junction, Abuja, according to a statement from the NSCDC’s spokesperson, Commandant Olusola Odumosu, released on Saturday. Five other officers were injured to varying degrees but survived.
Odumosu claims that the incident involved a van with the NSCDC logo that was transporting authorized identification badges for workers in Lagos who were on election duty.
He continued by saying that Lagos State Command, the entire CorpS, and the families of the deceased received condolences from Commandant General (CG) of the Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
The Corps’ administration will provide excellent care for the injured and take full responsibility for their treatment to ensure their full recovery and safe return to their families, the CG was quoted as saying. This is in keeping with his dedication to the welfare of the staff.
Being a non-partisan, apolitical organization, the Corps has no business transporting election materials, as some have suggested.
Election identity tags intended for Lagos Command employees on election duty prior to the terrible tragedy, not ballot sheets or PVCs, were scattered over the road at the scene of the accident in the video posted online.
