The Independent National Electoral Commission just held elections for the presidency and the National Assembly, and European Union observers have just finished their investigations.

The EU Observers noticed that fuel and Naira shortages limited INEC’s ability to operate. Also, it was claimed that security issues made it difficult for the electoral commision to reach several local governments, particularly in the Southern region, and hampered local preparations.

Nonetheless, INEC was charged with failing to impose punishment for financial and electoral violations as well as with ineffective planning and lack of transparency during crucial election-related phases.
