The Burkinabe government has released a statement condemning a 1961-era military agreement with France.
The deadline for the departure of all French military personnel working for the Burkinabe government was set by Ouagadougou in a private declaration dated February 28, 2023.
The change occurs months after the junta led by Ibrahim Traore demanded that France withdraw all of its troops from the country of West Africa.
Even though some French workers remained on with different levels of cooperation, France moved forwards with the relocation.
After the rise of terrorist activity in the subregion into the formerly quiet nation, French military cooperation and aid had increased during the previous ten years.
The government had previously declared that even once the page on active military collaboration was closed, all diplomatic ties with Paris would remain intact.
