Key members of South Africa’s ruling ANC are in Moscow on a “working visit.”
The African National Congress party claimed in a statement on Saturday evening that the visit was in response to an invitation from Russia’s ruling party and ally, the United Russia Party.
The meeting will focus on “recalibrating the global order to reverse the repercussions of neocolonialism […].”
The four-day journey took place ahead of Pretoria’s hosting of the 15th BRICS summit.
Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa will be represented.
President Vladimir Putin is likely to appear on the sidelines of the August meeting.
But, since the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the Russian President on March 17 for alleged war crimes in Ukraine, travel overseas may become increasingly difficult.
The South African government has sought legal advice on how to deal with the arrest warrant. It has so far maintained a neutral posture in the Ukraine conflict.
