The owner of a noisy cockerel has been warned by a magistrate court in Kano State to put it to death or face punishment.
After a complaint from two of the bird owner’s neighbors, the court issued the injunction on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
They stated that the neighborhood’s peace and quiet were disturbed by the bird’s loud, constant crows.
The owner, Isyaku Shu’aibu, was given the order to butcher his bird by the court in Gidan Murtala.
Yusuf Muhammed, one of the plaintiffs, claimed that the cockerel’s constant crowing violated his right to a good night’s sleep. He was a resident of Kano’s metropolis’ Ja’en quarters.
Mr. Shu’aibu asked the court to postpone the judgement until Friday, April 7, 2023 while acknowledging his cockerel’s propensity for making loud crows.
He informed the court that he had purchased the fowl to commemorate Good Friday and requested an extension so he could kill it in time for a family feast on Holy Saturday.
Shu’aibu was ordered by the magistrate, Halima Wali, to cage and kill the bird on Friday, or else face a fine from the court.
