Near western Kenya’s border with Tanzania, a truck struck pedestrians and motorcycle taxis, killing at least 10 and injured another 10.

On Saturday, the driver of the car crashed in the town of Migori after losing control of it on a busy roadway.

According to Migori police chief Mark Wanjala, an attempt to liberate persons trapped under the vehicle is underway, but there are concerns the death toll may grow.

Wanjala said that two additional people had allegedly been thrown from a bridge and into a river.

Local media was informed by witnesses that the truck driver repeatedly honked the horn before the collision. Bags of rice were being transported by the truck in the direction of the border town of Isebania with Tanzania.

On social media, there were videos of some stealing the rice while others were still stranded under the railway.

During the Easter holidays, a lot of Kenyans travel to their rural homes, and during this busy time, traffic accidents are frequent.

A bus bound for Nairobi’s capital collapsed in January, just after entering the country from Uganda, killing at least 21 passengers and injuring 49 others.

A bus collided with a truck on the side of the road in southeast Kenya in 2019, resulting in ten fatalities.
