The 275 Ugandans besieged in the horrific military hostilities in Sudan are being helped by the foreign minister of Uganda.
The government has contacted the International Organisation for Migration to help with the evacuation of Ugandan employees, students, patients, and citizens travelling through the nation, according to John Mulimba, the minister of state for foreign affairs in charge of regional cooperation, who spoke with Xinhua by phone.
He said that 120 Ugandans work in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, together with 116 students, 14 hospital patients, six visitors, and 19 Muslim pilgrims their route to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, for the Ramadan pilgrimage.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approached the IOM and requested support and assistance to evacuate Ugandans who may wish to return home,’’ said Mulimba, who briefed the parliament on the government’s plans to evacuate its citizens.
Since April 15, there have been armed skirmishes in Khartoum and other regions outside the capital between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, with each side blaming the other for starting the conflict.
