As a ceasefire between the army and the potent paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fell through, violence in Sudan entered its sixth day. They have now violated the truce twice.
The capital city of Khartoum has seen thousands of inhabitants leave. 320 troops who were held in adjacent Chad havae also been released.
“I already have 320 soldiers who are already in our territory, their military. No doubt there are civilians, so we are in the process of welcoming them and taking all the necessary measures to ensure that they are suitably accommodated,” said Chad’s Defence Minister, Bichara Issa Djadallah.
The World Health Organisation reports that more than 270 civilians have already died and more than 2,000 have been injured as a result of the violent conflicts. According to reports, the evacuation of their citizens is planned for Germany and Japan.
The African Union, the Arab League, and officials of other organizations will meet with the UN on Thursday to address the situation in Sudan.
