Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect, will be inaugurated on May 29. Mr. Peter Obi has been invited to the ceremony by the May 29th Presidential Inauguration Committee.

Letters inviting dignitaries to the President-elect Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s inauguration are already being sent out as the event draws near. The second-place finisher in the recently held presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, is one of those who has been asked to attend the occasion.

Mr. Peter Obi’s seat number 101 was indicated on the letter.

Recall Tinubu’s victory in the election was contested in a petition submitted by Obi and the Labour Party to the presidential election tribunal.

Instead of Tinubu, Obi requests in his appeal that the presidential election tribunal order INEC to give him a certificate of return as the legitimately elected President of Nigeria.

The INEC, Tinubu, Shettima, and the APC are named as respondents.

Obi informed the tribunal, via his attorney Livy Ozoukwu, that Tinubu “was not duly elected by majority of the lawful votes cast at the time of the election” and that he was unable to run for office.

“That it be determined that the second respondent (Tinubu) was not entitled to be declared and returned as the winner of the presidential election held in the federal capital territory, Abuja, having failed to score one-quarter of the votes cast at the presidential election there,” reads a portion of the petition.

“That it be determined that on the basis of the remaining votes (after discountenancing the

votes credited to the 2nd respondent) the 1st petitioner scored a majority of the lawful votes cast at the election and had not less than 25% of the votes cast in each of at least 2/3 of the states of the federation, and the federal capital territory, Abuja and satisfied the constitutional requirements to be declared the winner of the 25th February 2023 Presidential election.”

The petitioners (Obi and LP) asked the tribunal to cancel the election and compel the “1st respondent (INEC) to conduct a fresh election at which the 2nd respondent (Tinubu), 3rd respondent (Shettima) and 4th respondent (APC) shall not participate”.
