The brawl between Thomas Partey and Jack Grealish during Wednesday’s Premier League game between Manchester City and Arsenal has sparked discussion among football fans on social media.
After a heated altercation in the second half, referee Michael Oliver issued both players a yellow card for their involvement.
The Gunners had no chance against Pep Guardiola’s team, who controlled the game and won 4-1 with ease.
John Stones and Erling Haaland also scored as the hosts easily won at the Etihad Stadium thanks to a brace from Kevin De Bruyne.
After just seven minutes, De Bruyne put the game on the board when he pounced on a beautiful through ball from Haaland and blasted the ball past Aaron Ramsdale at his near post.
Right before the break, Stones headed in a De Bruyne free-kick to give Manchester City a two-goal advantage. The goal was initially called out for offside but was later upheld after a VAR review.
After the interval, Arsenal improved and started to hold the ball more, but any chance of a comeback was dashed in the 54th minute when De Bruyne scored a third goal after combining with Haaland once more.
Late in the game, Rob Holding gave Mike Arteta’s team a chance to tie the score, but Haaland still had time to convert from assist to goal as Manchester City easily defeated their rivals.
However, a number of melees cut short the game, with Partey and Grealish’s fight drawing the most attention from spectators.
After being tripped by Bernardo Silva in the first half, the Arsenal midfielder squared off against the England winger in the second.
Since then, the incident has gained widespread attention on social media, with a variety of perspectives and playful humour being shared by followers.
