The former president of Liberia and legendary player for AC Milan, George Weah, gave Victor Osimhen of Napoli a note of congratulations after Osimhen broke his record for the most goals scored by an African player in the Italian Serie A.
The Nigerian international led Napoli’s charge to their first Serie A championship in 33 years, breaking George Weah’s previous mark in the process.
In their victory over Fiorentina last Sunday, Osimhen scored his 47th goal in the Italian Serie A league, marking a significant moment in his football career. He later became the first African to receive the highest score in the competition’s history.
George Weah, a former Ballon d’Or winner, congratulated Osimhen on his success on social media.
After passing Samuel Eto’o, who scored 21 goals for Inter Milan in the 2010–2011 season, the Super Eagles star now owns the record for the most goals scored by an African player in a single Serie A season.
